[ Not long after Zack's gotten a hold of Cloud and gotten a general idea of his location, he's dialing up another line. Considering the state of the others and what had happened to he, himself, the other night, he figures it's likely a good idea to get in touch anyway and make sure his friend's in one piece. It might also have to do with the fact that he knows that Kunsel's been uneasy to be so far off from him- not that he can blame him. All those years without so much as a mail. Still, this is something really important, and granted he's not worse off, what better sir to trust than one of his closest friends.

Besides, the last thing he wants, too, is someone who isn't in the know of dealing with mako addiction getting thrown right into the fray. Kunsel might not have personal experience, but it was definitely part of their training to know the signs and symptoms and how to treat who had it. ...Granted, most of it involved a lot of hoping for the best, but.

Still, first thing's first. ] Kunsel, hey. How you holding up? [ If he sounds pretty damned tired out, well. It's 'cause he might or might have thought he'd been fighting the former general the other night. ]

[Even though he's had a few days to adjust to the idea that Zack is here and alive, there's still a thrill at receiving a call from him. Kunsel doesn't even bother to wait until he's found shelter before taking the call.

(He doesn't consider that maybe part of him is afraid that if he doesn't answer immediately, he might not ever get the chance, that Zack might disappear, just another hallucination.)]

That's great to hear, Angel! I can imagine it must have been a little frustrating, not having a tablet of your own, even with a friend who was willing to let you share his. He sounds like a good friend to have.

Hey! You wanted pictures of the tunnels, right? I took some pics for you!

[And he'll send them! There's a normal amount of pictures at first. There's a few of the walls, which are ice, compressed snow, and rubble from houses. He's taken a picture of the area where the to paths diverge right after building 58, then of buildings 126, 127, the ice spires of 140, and 141. After that he photographs the rubble of 125, the pharmacy, and the hospital.

...And then there are suddenly dozens of pictures of the hospital, mostly pointless things, and just as many pictures of 135 and 136.]

Sorry about all the pics at the end there, I was feeling sort of weird when I took them.

Thanks, Zell. I don't see that there's anything we can do about it if any of this really is the case, but always good to know what we might be dealing with.

Day 86 early evening; action

[ Something's been off.

Really off. Not around he, himself. He and Kunsel are chill as Icicle Inn. Or an ice spell or something. We don't talk about Modeoheim, okay, even as a parallel.

But not long ago... in bits and pieces, he's noticed how... oddly quiet he's been with Tifa? And granted, their first meeting had been interesting? But they'd been pretty smooth sailing since. So, what's... going on? Zell and Jim have definitely been giving weird looks his way, too. Mentioned they think he's acting weird, too. Why? He doesn't know. But he does know that he really ought to get to the bottom of this.

That means once they're settled into the house for the evening, he's subtly flagging down Kunsel off somewhere out of ear shot of the others. Only when he feels certain they have their privacy does he voice: ] Hey... Is something up?

[Kunsel had thought he'd been doing pretty good at burying his disgruntlement, at least since that initial argument he'd had with Tifa. As unhappy as he was with her, the others didn't deserve to be dragged into it.

He should have known better than to think that Zack wouldn't notice, or that he'd buy the act. The SOLDIER Second's mouth twists down for a moment before he just sighs.]

What do you mean?

[Can he hope that Zack didn't really catch on?]

He took it upon himself to be on watch duty when we sleep.

Short of drugging him? Not sure it's possible. Not with the way things are.

Maybe if you pull him aside and mention what kind of effect it's having on morale. It's one thing if he thinks he's the only one it's affecting, but if he's given reason to believe that it's hurting someone else...

[After two days, Kunsel had started to think that maybe Brian had lost interest, or had been otherwise distracted with things. So seeing this in his inbox is just a little surprising, but in a good way.]

That's an interesting interpretation.

Some people think the goddess is the girl he loves. Maybe the one who is distracted by love is actually closer to finding the answers than all the others.

He knows he died. There's no question of that. Not when the first thing he woke to was being inside of a body bag of all things. That alone brings little comfort to him. It tells him a lot of things at once and none of them are good.

It also prompts him to get a hold of his tablet as soon as he can because first priority? Is definitely getting a hold of everyone. Especially-

It's... about at that point when he's just about to shoot out his initial message to him that the rest of him catches up with him that if things went down the way he hoped, he might be.. well. Reeling seems like an understatement.

Which might be why when he finally does send a proper message, it's more of a nudge in the end. A knowingly perhaps tasteless moment of banter. But it's him and it's them and that's how it should be... right? ] Looks like this place just couldn't get enough of me... huh.

[ Once they are taking a break from their clean up, Zell decides to shoot a message Kunsel's way. ]

[ Sure, they are in the same house, but he doesn't want to walk in on any wrestling Zack and Kunsel might be participating in. ]

As it is, though, he's not wrestling with anyone at the moment, so it's not long at all before he shoots back a message, not at all bothered by conversing in text despite being in the same building.]

[ Sleeping hasn't come easy that night. As in... Zack hasn't slept a wink and he might be just kinda huddled up in a corner keeping watch at this point. Because there's no point in trying when he knows he's going no where there. That's also why he's got his tablet propped up on his legs and he's scoring through it.

All those photographs have to be sorted out anyway. Not that he especially feels like looking at the dead after nearly being the cause of a few of those. Doesn't matter what the others said, how it was some fever dream. How it wasn't real. It certainly had felt real. Real enough to make him feel sick if he thought on it too long.

But the tablet keeps himself busy and that's what he needs right then. Squats had only done so much in the end. ]

[Kunsel had gotten lucky. He hadn't run into anyone the night before.

The intent had been there, though, leaving him rattled.

They all are.

So Zack might not be the only one suffering from insomnia right now. Kunsel's awake while Zack's scrolling through his tablet, the light of it catching his eye.

And he understands.

Tonight, there won't be any scolding for Zack to get some sleep.

Tonight, he just lays there a little while longer before getting up and moving over to sit down next to Zack, just shoulder-to-shoulder in a silent companionship he needs just as much as he suspects Zack does.]
